Ms. Ruhsam was born and raised in Appleton where she attended Huntley and Ferber Elementary, Einstein Middle, and Appleton North High School. She went on to Winona State University where she played four years of soccer and earned a degree in K-12 Physical Education with Adaptive P.E. and a coaching minor. Upon return to the Fox Valley, she attended UW - Oshkosh to obtain a teaching license in Special Education and eventually earned a Masters Degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, and Curriculum and Instruction.

She began her teaching career in the Appleton Area School District teaching students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities at Roosevelt (now Kaleidoscope) Middle School in 2007. She then moved over to Appleton West where she spent the majority of her teaching career. From there Ms. Ruhsam went on to teach cross-categorical special education at Kimberly High School for 2 years and most recently had been an Assistant Principal at Fond du Lac High School for the last 3 years.

Ms. Ruhsam has always taken great pride in her ability to advocate for underserved and traditionally marginalized populations of students. She has a passion for classroom practices to create a more equitable learning environment for all students to be able to achieve at high levels. She has served on various leadership teams focusing on equity, community relationships, and student behavior and looks forward to the success, challenges, and opportunities for growth that the new school year will bring in her first year at Wilson Middle School.

When she is not at school, you can usually find Ms. Ruhsam at a sporting event either watching her children or coaching. In her free time, she continues to enjoy playing soccer, running, and doing yoga. She currently lives in Appleton with her husband Adam and three children Carson, Gretta, and Reagan who all attend Appleton Area Schools.

A Message from the Principal

Welcome! I am Kristin Ruhsam and it is with great pride that I join the Wilson Middle School family as your new Principal. Wilson Middle School has a rich history and I am proud to return to serve the Appleton community that I call home. As a staff, we look forward to partnering with you to ensure that all students are supported, celebrated, and held to high expectations. We are excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year as we continue to aim to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment through our commitment to Equity, Respect, Creativity, Leadership, and Collaboration.

As Wilson’s principal, I firmly believe that every student has the capacity to achieve at a high level but understand that each student’s path is very different. It is important to me that every student who walks through our doors is excited to be here and feels like a welcomed part of our learning community. Here at Wilson Middle School, we will work hard to increase student achievement through high-quality and equity-based education, which includes building strong relationships with families, students, staff, and community partners. We also commit to holding students to high expectations, inspiring students to be independent problem-solvers, and motivating students to be active participants in their education.

To better serve the students and families of our Wilson Middle School community we are always seeking ways to improve. Feel free to call, email, or schedule a time to meet as I look forward to walking with you on this journey.

Sincerely,
Kristin Ruhsam
